MuniSUSTAINABILITY Reader Feedback

Thank you to our Reader Community. Your feedback is helping us shape the future of MuniSUSTAINABILITY Reader.

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve been publishing the MuniSUSTAINABILITY Reader  (originally MuniESG Reader) for over two years. We recently asked our readers for feedback: what topics they wanted more of, or new ideas we should explore, so that we can keep the content fresh and relevant.

Thank you to all who took the time to respond to the survey and share their thoughts. The feedback we received is summarized below.

Level of Interest in Reader Topics

What is your level of interest in each of the following Reader topics?

Governance and Physical Risk took top spots, with Disclosure Issues a close third.
All of the remaining topics scored above 3.0, so they were all of interest to respondents.

What other topics might you be interested in seeing in the Reader?

  • Education, private-public partnerships
  • Profiles of high achieving professionals in this fields and how they made their way to their current positions
  • Credit distress and both technical and payment defaults
  • Timely muni financial reporting as required by bond indentures, and possibly SEC.
  •  I would like to see Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) news in the Reader.

ESG Views

What is your organization’s current view about the “Environmental, Social & Governance” (ESG) framework?

The majority of respondents (60%) said the ESG framework was still entirely relevant to their organization. 20% said only two factors—Environmental and Governance— are still relevant.

Climate Factors and Credit Analysis

Do you believe that climate-related factors should be incorporated into traditional credit analysis?

Here, we saw roughly a three-way tie among those who said climate factors should be incorporated in the next 6-12 months (30%), those for whom factors are already integrated into credit analysis (35%) and those for whom factors should be incorporated within 2-5 years.

Climate Data Availability

In your experience, how available is climate data for municipal credit analysis?

35% of respondents said data is available, but not easily integrated into muni credit processes, while only 10% said that climate data is easily available. The rest of the respondents said the data was not easily available (30%) or did not know about its availability (25%).
