MuniPOINTS Helped Accounting Researchers Find Better Muni Data, Faster
MuniPOINTS helped university-based accounting researchers get detailed use-of-proceeds data without manually collecting it from the OS.
In a recent MuniPOINTS case study, a university-based accounting researcher described how she and her co-author needed “use of proceeds” and other text-based data for a municipal bond research paper. They knew they could mine EMMA for the information, but that process would have taken valuable time away from the research itself.
Through DPC DATA’s MuniPOINTS solution, the accounting researchers were able to access the dataset they needed for the bonds they wanted to study. That gave them a more practical path to detailed muni bond data, without starting from scratch.
The lead researcher said MuniPOINTS provided “detailed use of proceeds data” that was more precise than the broad categories they had been relying on before. She also noted that the team spent less time hand-collecting data and more time focused on the research.
The case study also points to the value of the researchers’ collaboration with DPC DATA. The lead researcher said she and her co-author appreciated the team’s willingness to talk with them, share expertise, and support academic work in the municipal market.
The researcher said she would encourage academics to get familiar with DPC DATA before beginning a resource-intensive hand-collection effort, because DPC DATA has already collected data many academics assume they need to assemble themselves.
